FYIs from Madeline

Madeline is always telling me little random tidbits of information as we're driving or walking somewhere. Most of time it's something about animals or nature...and it gives me a glimpse of what is going through her mind when I see her quietly staring out the window. I've written down a few from the past couple weeks:

Most of the time she begins with, "Hey Mama, ya know....."

"A moose is in the deer family."
"If you see a net up high and a basketball, you need to jump and throw it in."
"This isn't ketchup...it's blood." (as she's pulling down her bottom eyelids)
"Beavers like to swim in water and make dams."
"Have you ever seen a volcano? It has fire rocks."
"If you don't put on your panties, someone might see your gina."
"If you see a rattle...it's a rattlesnake."
"Winnie the Pooh exercises like this...up, down, touch the ground."
"I don't really like hyenas...they're mean and naughty."
"When seals bark, they clap their hands."
"Elephant's noses are their trunks."
"When cats are happy, they purr. They don't have waggy tails like dogs."
"If you don't wash your plum, then it might taste like dirt."
"Snail's eyes are their up-things."
"When it's dark outside, owls stay awake while you are sleeping."
"Geckos have 3 nails to help them climb trees, and frogs have suckers."

I put Madeline in her bed each afternoon for her nap, but when she comes out of her room sometimes 2 hours later, her clean closet turns into this:

Just the 3 of us

Our new library began their fall story times this week and it was the first organized activity I've taken Madeline and Charlotte to since Grace started school. They both had a lot of fun, and we're excited about the 2 and 3 year-old classes they have each week. It's a big adjustment for me not to have Grace with us through the day, but it's been interesting to see how differently the younger girls act without her here.

Kindergartener

We were all very excited for Grace's first day of Kindergarten. She had already visited the school and met her teacher last week, so she wasn't nervous or scared at all. I thought I had prepared myself, but became overwhelmed with so many emotions and broke down before Sam and I could even get out of the parking lot. At home later eating lunch I was trying to be cheerful and told Madeline it was nice for it to be just the three of us. She said, "Well, I just like it better with Sissy here." We were all VERY excited to pick Grace up and hear about her fun day.

Charlotte is 2!

Sam had work and Grace had school today, so we celebrated Charlotte's birthday yesterday together as a family. We went to brunch after she opened her presents, then spent the rest of the day at the science museum. She's very happy to be two, and loved all the attention. She was singing "Happy Birthday" to herself by the end of this evening.

Happy work

The girls and I made a cake for Sam's first day at his new job. Grace decorated it before we sang "Happy Workday" to him.

Mountain climbing

Grace has been begging to go "mountain climbing" since we arrived in Alabama. After two days of driving around neighborhoods and walking through model houses, we put on our tennis shoes and went on a nature walk a few minutes from our apartment. We came upon a bridge built during the Civil War for a confederate supply railroad, so I suppose Madeline was right when she said, "You never know what you're gonna find in nature" when we started walking.

Sweet home

Sam took a new job in Alabama, so this week we loaded up the cars and drove to our new (temporary) home...a furnished apartment until our house in Texas sells. The girls were very happy to be on an adventure and were wonderful on the drive over, coloring almost the entire 11 hours. Grace said it was the happiest day of her life, and after Madeline once asked me where we were and I told her, "in Mississippi", she looked around and said, "I LOVE IT!!!" Grace drew this picture of the family, including me with a large bun holding the the baby due in December, standing in front of our new home. We're all excited about so many changes!

Circus

We took the girls to see the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus this weekend and they each had their favorite parts. Grace liked the "ring ladies" (aerial acrobats), Madeline liked the "lady swingers" (trapeze performers), and Charlotte liked the "dog-dog" (the trick dog that ran around with the ponies).
